Types of
Searches in Alert
WildCard:
You can
perform two types of Search & Replace with Alert WildCard:
Standard
Search & Replace: Using Standard mode Alert WildCard searches
the files you specify for an exact match to the text you've entered
in the "Target Text To Search For" box.

Wildcard
Search & Replace: This mode allows you to enter a wildcard
character between two normal text elements to make up your Target
Search Text. In the example shown above, for instance, all text
that appears in a file between the text elements
"<TITLE>" and "</TITLE>" will match
the Target Search Text and be replaced with the replacement text.
Remember:
To use the Wildcard Search & Replace mode you must select a
wildcard character in your settings, and the wildcard character must
appear between two normal text elements in the "Target Text To
Search For" box.
Entering
Your Search and Replace Text
Strings:
Enter the
text you want to search for in the "Target Text To Search
For" box. This box can be made to allow entry of only a single
line of text (click "Single Line") or multiple lines (click
"Multi Line") that include a carriage return/line feed (CR/LF)
pair at the end of each line.
If you use the
multiple line text box, note that the CR/LF characters that you can't
see are still part of the search text and must exist in the
target document as entered in order for a match to be found.
Enter the
text you want to replace the target text with in the "Replace
With" box. Replacement text can also be single or multi line
text. If you enter multi line text, note that the CR/LF characters at
the end of each line will also be inserted into your document when
the replacement text is inserted.
Performing
the Search & Replace:
If you click:
Automatically
Search and Replace Through All Files: You'll be asked for
confirmation first, then if you click "Yes" Alert WildCard
will automatically read, search, and replace text through all files
and folders as you specified in the program settings.
If necessary,
you can cancel the search by clicking the "Cancel" button
at the bottom-right of the Main Window.
If you click:
Manually
Search and Replace With Confirmation (Recommended): Alert
WildCard will begin searching and each time a match for your target
text is found the Confirmation Window will appear. In the
Confirmation Window you can see the text as it appears in the context
of the document, then decide whether you want to replace the
displayed occurrence or not.
The
Confirmation Window (Manual Search only):
When you
search manually with confirmation, any text that matches your Target
Search String will be displayed in context within the Confirmation
Window, as show below:

At the top of
this window you'll see the path and file name of the file the Target
Search String was found in. The text itself is shown highlighted in
the large box.
The following
options are available in the Confirmation Window:
-
Replace
This Text: Clicking this button will cause the highlighted Target
Search String to be replaced with the text you entered in the
"Replace With" box in the Main Window.
-

Clicking this button will cause Alert WildCard to ignore the
highlighted text and continue searching this file and other files in
the folders you specified for the next match.

document, and begin searching the next file.

where you can enter the new text, click okay after typing your text

Click this button to revert to an Automatic Search and Replace. All
remaining occupancies of the Target Search String will be replaced without
