Alert Bookmarks Version Revision History

  • 2007: Alert Bookmarks v10.14 Released.

    • Added built-in support for Mozilla FireFox, Internet Explorer 7, and Netscape Navigator 8.

  • 2004: Alert Bookmarks v10.0 Released.

    • New Bookmark Validator added. Many other changes, fixes!

  • 2001: Alert Bookmarks v9.0 Released.

    • Colors, colors, colors... Alert now comes in 18, all windows being 'skinned'!

    • Added the option of double-clicking to visit a bookmark, making Group Menu editing easier.
    • Added shortcut icons to Group Menus for editing bookmarks.
    • Completely revamped the Setup Browser process, adding support for all known Web browsers. A Browser Setup Window allows users to adjust the settings of any browser from the program.
    • Added the ability to insert Subtitles in a preselected location, as well as hand entered bookmarks.
    • Added Group Menu cut, copy, paste, and delete functionality.
    • Revamped the design of the left side of the toolbar so that color schemes change it as well (goodbye red bar!)
    • Added an indicator on the toolbar that shows which browser is currently selected, when clicked on this indicator will activate that browser.
    • Added a search icon to the main toolbar as a shortcut to the Search function.
    • Made the Group Menu and Control Panel Windows movable.
    • Many, many other enhancements...

  • February 16, 2001: v8.1 Build 3 Released.

    • Completely revamped the visual design of the Bookbar.

    • Added multiple color options.
    • Added the Alert Bookmark Mailer for emailing bookmarks to other users.
    • Added an "Insert Bookmark from Browser" function so added bookmarks can be place where they'll belong from the outset.
    • A few fixes, including a fix for a problem with removing commas from URLs, which rendered the URL useless.

  • January 12, 2001: v8.0 Build 6 Released.

    • Fixed a minor but ugly bug that made the width of the Control Panel unbalanced on certain systems.

  • December 12, 2000: Version 8.0 Build 5 Released.

    • Fixed the "Show edit window after adding from browser" option so that the Edit window displays the correct bookmark when it comes up!

    • At the request of several users, restored the "High Contrast" and "Normal" Menu color options, in addition to the option of using default Windows colors.
    • Added an optional Auto-Hide feature that will retract the Alert Toolbar and menus if the mouse pointer is moved away from them for more than a second or two.
    • Finally, made a couple of minor display fixes to decrease menu flashing and improve scrolling.

  • December 6, 2000: Alert Bookmarks v8.0 Released. New features:

    • Added Scrolling Group Menus with a 100 bookmark capacity.

    • Variable Width Group Menus.
    • Added Cut, Copy, and Paste throughout Group Menus and the Power Palette.
    • Bookmark capacity increased to 140,000 per Bookmark Folder.
    • Now 25 Subtitles are available per Group Menu.
    • New Small Font option in Preferences to increase the number of Bookmarks displayed.
    • Alert Bookmarks windows are now Windows System Color compatible.

  • Version 7.05 To November 20, 2000:

    • Build 3: Fixed problem with Duplicate Search that prevented editing.

    • Fixed the problem with Group Menus not dropping during drag and drop in "Auto-Drop OFF" mode.
    • Fixed bug with MSIE import from Palette that prevented more than one subtitle to import at one time.
    • Fixed problem with Palette saving blank HTML documents.
    • Version 8 is being debugged!

  • Version 7.01 To June 9, 1999:

    • Build 23: Fixed Password Protection bug that allowed protected bars to be deleted and renamed from the Bookbar Control Panel. Added a confirmation dialog to the Delete Bar function.

    • Build 22: Added QuickBar capability.
    • Improved 'Scan Current Web Page...' process to pick up broken URLs.
    • Added a rudimentary Duplicate search in the Search Window and enhanced the automatic Import capabilities to allow more control for advanced users during the import process.
    • NeoPlanet support added for NeoPlanet version 2.1.
    • Fix uploaded for 'Scan Current Web Page...' command. Alert Bookmarks now waits for the entire page to be saved before scanning it.
    • Added the ability to import bookmarks directly to the Toolbar. 'New' and 'Delete' buttons added to the Bookbar Control Panel to facilitate the new import process. Fix for high-resolution screens that allowed for more than 50 items in a Group Menu. Fixed a bug could have corrupted HTML files that Alert scanned for bookmarks.
    • Improved Drag & Drop performance. You can now move your Bookmarks exactly where you want them in one step. Version number not changed.

  • March 30, 1999: Version 7.01 released. Added features:

    • Command Line functionality added. You can now specify a URL to be loaded into your browser when Alert Bookmarks starts by entering it as a command line argument in a Windows shortcut. To tell Alert not to open anything at all from the command line, enter "none" as an argument.

    • Window added for viewing Bookmark comments easily. Just hold down the [ALT] key while moving your mouse down a Group Menu.
    • Power Palette enhancements added:

      • All Import functions have been moved to the Palette, including 'Scan Current Web Page For Bookmarks'.

      • Importing from an HTML document now utilizes the parsing engine from Alert LinkRunner, which is much more efficient at extracting hyperlinks from a document.
      • 'Save Bookmarks As HTML' now also saves your Bookmark comments, which can then be reloaded in later using 'Import Bookmarks From File'.
      • Toolbar and progress indicator added to Palette, and the scanning speed has been increased considerably.

    • You can now specify the directory/folder where Alert Bookmarks saves its data files.

    • New automatic scan for installed browsers.
    • Fix for the file name problem and browser window ID problem!

  • February 5, 1999: Version 7.0 released. (Thanks to all of you who sent in suggestions Thanks especially for your bug reports!)

    New Features in 7.0:

    • Group Menu Sort: You can now sort the contents of a group menu by clicking the 'Sort' Button on the menu. Bookmarks under each Subtitle are sorted as a group. If there are no Subtitles, the entire group is sorted.

    • Easy re-ordering of Toolbars is accomplished in the Bookbar Control Panel using up and down arrow controls to move Bookmark Bars within the list.
    • Recursive Search & Edit feature lets you search for Bookmarks or duplicate URLs, then edit them one after the other without instituting a new search.
    • Search now includes Bookmark Bars & Group Button Names, as well as Bookmarks.
    • Auto-Drop added for the Main Menu & Bookbar Control Panel.
    • 'Save As HTML' & 'Save As Text' functions have been moved to the Bookbar Control Panel to enable easy saving of multiple bars in one HTML document or text file.
    • Duplicate URLs: An option has been added to the Palette to show & select duplicates, ready to delete or otherwise edit.
    • Option to open a bookmark in a new browser window has been added, along with the change that 'Open Bookmarks Using...' function now uses the last open browser window to display the bookmarked Web page.
    • Many other changes, including:

      • Better targeting of windows when URLs are opened - especially with MSIE.

      • Toolbar retraction when Group Buttons are right-clicked on or when the mouse pointer is moved over the red bar at right.
      • Faster switching of Bookbars using one click on the Bookbar Control Panel instead of a double-click.
      • Cumulative collecting of bookmarks in the Palette is now possible.
      • More!

  • June 26, 1998: Version 6.01 released. A few small fixes including the problem with the automatic 'Add From Browser' feature cutting off URLs because they contained commas. Thanks Dave!! Also enchancements to Password Protection. (Please keep those Suggestions and Bug Reports coming!)

  • April 29, 1998: Version 6.0 released. (Thanks to all of you who sent in suggestions, many are implemented here, and more will be implemented in the next major version. Thanks especially for your bug reports!)
