About
META Tags...
META tags
contain words that describe your Web site and your products or
services. They are hidden in your Web page HTML coding, and are not
seen by visitors. They are used by search engine "spiders"
to index your site on the search engine, thus they are extremely important!
The META Tags
that search engines are interested in are the "Keywords"
and "Description" Tags. The former contains keywords that
describe your site. The latter is an actuall description of your site
that could be used directly as the search engine's description of
your site.
META-Publisher
also lets you create "Author" and "Copyright"
META Tags, which are more useful to visitors than search engines.
Creating
META Tags with META-Publisher is a simple four-step process:

-
First, enter
up to 18 keywords that best describe your site's products or
services. You can use single words or phrases for keywords. Enter the
keywords in lower case (no capitals) - unless your keyword should
appear in all capital letters. META-Publisher will duplicate all of
your keywords in a second set that will have the first letter of each
keyword capatilized.

-
Next, enter a
description of your Web site and the products or services it
provides. Your site description should be straightforward and to the
point. You can make your description longer than 200 characters, but
we recommend 200 characters or less. Use the handy built-in Character
Counter to keep track of how many characters you have entered.

-
Thirdly, if
you want META-Publisher to include "Author" and
"Copyright" tags, enter the Web page author's name and the
copyright holder name in the appropriate text box. If you would like
to insert a "Robots NOINDEX" tag as well, check that box.
ONLY use the Robots tag on pages you DON'T want the search engines to
list - for example, you would not want search engines to list pages
that should appear inside of an HTML frame on another page
If you don't
use frames, just ignore the "Robots NOINDEX" check box by
leaving it unchecked.

-
Finally, click
the "Select Files For Insertion" button and add all
of the files you want your META tags inserted into to the list window
that appears. When you have added all the files, click the "Insert
Tags Into Selected Files" button and you're done!
If you know
you are replacing META tags that already exist in the files, be sure
that the "Replace Old META Tags" check box is
checked. Otherwise the new META Tags will be added and any old ones
will still be in the file too.
